OSWEGO, NY – Join crafters, artists, artisans, kite fliers, and others for FortFest at Fort Ontario State Historic Site on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission to the festival which will be held on the grounds outside the old fort is free.
The fort itself will be open to the public and regular admission prices will be charged; children 12 years of age and under will be admitted free.

There is something for everyone at FortFest whose exhibitors will include the Dancing Goat Farm – goat milk-soap & meat, Tammy Waloven and her handmade clothing and pillows, Oswego County ABATE with their motorcycle safety program, the Oswego Arts Collaborative, Happy Love Granola, Spaulding and & Fenton baked goods and candy, Silver Lynx Jewelry, Daisy’s Doll Closet featuring doll cloths, Nikki Kittren’s Jewelry and Art, Mama’s Lil Sweet Pea with diapers wreaths, bundles, etc…, Two Bad Cat’s jewelry, Radcliffe/Borkmon jewelry/bottle openers, ANA Gifts with painted glassware and totes, Woods Jewelry and Pillows, Kitten Kreation’s jewelry, Man-In-The-Moon Candies, and Pampered Chef kitchen supplies.

The New York Kite Enthusiasts (NYKE) will fill the skies above Fort Ontario with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes.
Featured during the kite festival will be a Rokkaku kite battle, the running of the bols and the candy drop for children. The public is encouraged to bring their own kites to fly and get advice from NYKE experts who are coming to Oswego from all over the northeastern United States and Canada.
AmeriCorps staffer Ian Mumpton and volunteers will encourage children to leave their electronic devices at home and participate in historic games and activities that require physical exertion; these include stilts, bat and trap, cat and mouse, tug of war, blind man’s bluff, and others.
Children may also enlist in the kid’s army and drill with wooden muskets.
Other activities for children include face painting by J & J and coloring pages featuring General Brown, the fort mascot. The General will be in uniform to greet everyone and is excited to learn that the Oswego County Search and Rescue Dogs plan to attend.
Food and snacks at FortFest will be available for sale by Cam’s New York Pizza, Shannon’s Hot Dogs by Crystal, and the Friends of Fort Ontario.
The Central New York Ghost Hunters will take reservations and sell tickets to the Ghost Hunt Tours in October as well as staff a booth highlighting their paranormal investigations.
Bob Riggio of R-R-R Music will spin records and provide musical entertainment.
Fort Ontario State Historic Site is located at the north end of East Fourth Street in Oswego.
There is plenty of free parking at or around the fort. No public vehicle access will be allowed to the overlook parking lot during the festival as a safety measure for kite fliers and children.
