OSWEGO, NY – During the month of October, members of the Oswego City Police Department Anti-Crime Team began an investigation into the sale and trafficking of illegal drugs by members of Delta Kappa Kappa and Sigma Tau Chi.
Both organizations are local chapters of fraternities associated with SUNY Oswego.
Delta Kappa Kappa is located at 86 Sheldon Ave. in the city of Oswego and Sigma Tau Chi is located at 8 Montcalm St., also in the city of Oswego.
The Oswego City Police Department Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Special Response Team were also involved in the investigation, with additional assistance provided by the Oswego State University Police and the United States Border Patrol.
On Oct. 28, at approximately 6:30 p.m. a search warrant was executed at 86 Sheldon Ave.
As a result of the investigation and search warrant, the following individuals have been arrested:
James R. Salvato, 26 years old, and Kyle R. McGrath, 21 years old, both of 86 Sheldon Ave., were each charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (violation).
Both were released on appearance tickets returnable in Oswego City Court on Feb. 16, 2012.
Thomas D. VonBraunsberg, 20 years old, also of 86 Sheldon Ave., was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (violation) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (A Misdemeanor).
He was released on an appearance ticket returnable in Oswego City Court on Feb. 16, 2012.
Zachary S. Nielander, 22 years old, of 22 W. Eighth St., Apt. B5, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (B Felony).
He was arraigned in Oswego City Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bail bond.
Nielander is scheduled to return in Oswego City Court on Jan. 10, 2012.
Griffin D. Dault, 22 years old, of 1 Lakeview Ave., upper Apt., was charged with Conspiracy in the Second Degree (B Felony).
He was arraigned in Oswego City Court and released on his own recognizance with a return court date of Jan. 5, 2012.
Nielander and Dault are accused of trafficking and /or conspiring to traffic a total of ½ kilogram of powdered cocaine, over the course of several months, to the city of Oswego from the city of Rochester.
In total, as a result of the investigation Oswego Police have seized $1,538.00 in cash, ½ oz. of powdered cocaine, and ½ ounce of marijuana.
