OSWEGO – Auditions will be held on Sept. 6 and 8 at 7 p.m. in the Frances Marion Brown Theater of the Oswego Civic Arts Center for a new play chronicling the lives of some of the refugees at the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Center.
The play, “Dawn of Freedom,” was written by Rick Sivers and will be directed by him for the Oct. 8 and 9 performances.
“I’ve taken the words of the refugees and given them life on the stage,” said Sivers about the play.
Working with the Safe Haven Museum, the play has taken shape over the last year, with proceeds from the play to go to the museum for its work.
There are parts for 11 persons.
Roles include girls 10 and 13 years old , a 12-year-old boy, with the remainder of the parts ranging in age from 21 to 50.
The characters speak monologues telling their individual stories while interacting with each other on the stage.
All interested persons are invited to come to the Arts Center to audition, with rehearsals beginning the week after the auditions.
