To the Editor:
Think Globally- Act locally-never was that slogan more important than today!
With the world watching, the current Trump Administration is tearing down our institutions, destroying America’s credibility worldwide and hurting hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens. ICE raids, soaring prices, environmental protections, human rights, escalating Tariff’s and a deluge of executive orders strip Americans of their rights, privileges and protections.
Our ability to protests empowers us to come together and make our voices heard. From town halls to town squares, citizens stand together to peacefully and productively protest.
It’s a great feeling to be part of a movement!
But there is another battle to be fought. It’s not as glamorous or as exciting as a rally but it’s just as important.
I’m referring to changing things in your local community. By campaigning for Democrats and Independent Candidates on the local level you can make a difference. This year there are elections for town/village council positions, Board of Education member town justices and town clerks to name a few.
There are many small things that can be done. There is work helping to gather petition signatures so candidates can run. Citizens can attend local town, city and school District meetings to understand what’s going on politically close to home. There is the act of writing letters to your local representatives and to local newspapers. You can educate yourself, friends, and neighbors by learning about local issues
Join a local political action group!
Think Globally and act locally- the time is now. You can make a difference every day.
