Cry Me A River!

If you missed the August Legislative meeting you missed another meeting were Legislator Roy Reehil, stormed out of the meeting refusing to vote on a motion.

I made a motion to move the subject of changing the order of business of the full Legislative meetings.

I wanted to have the G&C committee discuss the changing of the Public Comment portion of the meeting to be before the closing of the meeting.

I was doing this because as of late there has been an exodus of Legislators following the closing of the meeting not waiting to hear the views and concerns of their constituents. This is both a disgrace and very disheartening!

Agree or disagree with the views and concerns of our constituents, however, listening and learning, is our job.

Storming out of a meeting  should be unacceptable, all because you don’t want your vote to show how you feel about your constituents’ views and concerns.

Now Mr. Reehil will say the motion was illegal, anyone that is aware of Roberts Rules, knows that anyone can make a motion during a meeting and if there is a second to that motion a vote must occur.

This isn’t the first time Mr. Reehil has left a meeting upset with a procedure that would require his vote, saying “he keeps making these motions  embarrass us with our votes”. On another occasion he left during the public comment session stating, “it was late and he had a one hour drive”. Very sad.
