It’s ovah. The men and women who pass the state’s laws have headed home, the year’s labors done. Oh, they may come back to handle an issue or two, but by and large, the Legislature is out of business for another year. So, what’d they do?
Well, they didn’t pass Gov. Paterson’s school property tax cap, but they did pass a lot of other stuff, as this breakdown makes clear.
Four Men In A (Press) Room:
- Gov. Paterson hits 100 days. So, how’s it goin’?
- Retiring Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno will be missed in his home district. Or, at least, his money will be.
- His replacement, new Majority Leader Dean Skelos, isn’t as buddy-buddy with unions as Bruno was, but those unions still plan to back Senate Republicans because hope springs eternal.
- And Attorney General Andrew Cuomo tones down the Spitzeresque tough talk, but keeps on prosecutin’.
Elsewhere:
- You’ll love this (meaning, you won’t): The state’s highest court says an injured worker was entitled to Worker’s Comp, even though he’s an illegal alien.
- The Supreme Court’s ruling allowing anyone in D.C. to have a handgun isn’t a threat to NYC’s handgun control laws, or so they believe.
- Where have we heard this before?
- The rich get richer and New York State’s women get poorer.
Apropos Of Not Very Much:
- Have a Wild Blossom. First one’s on me.
- Whose eulogy begins with: “Vic had two great hands”?
- I’m so happy to have just one college loan to pay.
Your Body Never Tires Of Animal Stories:
- Meet the only living member of the poultry section at this Tops Supermarket.
