Friday’s Briefing: The Dog Days Of Albany

Maybe it’s the weather. Maybe it’s the end of the primary campaign season. Maybe it’s a previously undiscovered tear in the fabric of the universe. Whatever it is, it isn’t bringing a lot of news from around the state to you on this hazy Friday. Then again, state lawmakers can’t break whatever it is they’re trying to fix, so perhaps no news IS good news after all.

The big stuff of the day concerns economic development. Gov. Paterson got rid of the two-headed monster that was the split Upstate/Downstate economic development plan and installed one guy on Thursday to run the whole shebang.

Looks like lawmakers will get out of town soon without doing much more.

Three state employees will soon report to another state agency — its courts system — for peeking where peeking’s not allowed.

Joining them at the defense bar: 27 alleged cigarette smugglers.

Health news:

When the hospital screws up your care from now on, if you’re on Medicaid, Medicaid won’t pay.

Some state lawmakers want to prevent big drug price increases.

Apropos of not-very-much:

The next victim of high fuel prices: Small city airports.

Native American lobbyists apply pressure, and bingo!, they win.

Why does beekeeping in the middle of a heavily-populated city sound like a bad idea to me?

And finally:

Wouldn’t it have been easier just to buy the paper?

May your walk to get the morning paper remain brief, and horizontal. Enjoy the weekend, and if there’s anything I missed that’s worth noting, drop it in the comments. missing or outdated ad config
