January 7th
Is this the City of Fulton or Town of New Haven?
For a year now when you attended a Fulton Common Council meeting there has been a signup sheet for interested individuals to sign If they wished to speak on agenda items or general issues.
Well in the past year the clerk would read the names of anyone that had signed up to speak, when the list of individuals had been exhausted she or the Mayor would then ask if there was anyone that hadn’t signed up but wished to speak.
Well at tonight’s meeting the rules have been changed. When the list had been exhausted, I started up to the podium to speak. I hadn’t signed up thinking that if there were issues brought forth I would get a chance to address them as it had been the process for a year. Well low and behold that wasn’t the case.
When asked why the process had changed the Mayor kept saying “I asked if you wanted to speak you must sign up” I asked why the process had changed, he again said “you had a chance when I asked” I again asked “Past practice is changed Why has the process changed”, at that point the Mayor said “I’m not going to argue with you Frank, Chief please remove Frank” “ I said is that how you want handle this Jim“ This is what transpired to the best of my recollection.
So as always whenever people feel threatened, asking a question is all of a sudden an “Argument”
People may not know if they want to speak until someone else has brought up an issue that they care to get clarification on. Which was the case tonight.
I left the meeting!
