I am writing this letter on behalf of my daughter Loreal Nelson and my 4 grandkids who resides at 316 1/2 worth st., fulton ny. She has been living there for 3 years now in a run down apt. As of now the place is infested with roaches, the thermostat is inoperable, (the heat was running all summer until i went there myself and shut down the heater). The bathroom tub faucet is leaking hot water so when they try to take a bath or shower they run out of hot water. The upstairs bedroom windows are falling out of their frames. She had to use a stove where the oven did not work and a refrigerator where the door does not stay shut. I have had to recently go there and install weatherstrip around her front door. The landlord finally relented and purchased a new stove last summer. Her grandmother just bought her a brand new refrigerator. She has called HUD and the apartment manager numerous times recently about the thermostat not working, the hot water faucet leaking, and roaches. They do not call back or answer the phone. I have reported this to the city code inspector but they seem to not want to get involved. On top of all that, she has no income and is supposed to be getting child support. Social services do not want to take action against the father of her kids as he owes thousands in back support. He is a military veteran and getting thousands a month in disability but she hasn’t gotten anything. She wants to go back to work but her youngest is 4 yrs old and just started school. We don’t know where to turn or what to do so I am writing this hoping someone will see this and help her.
