Moms Want Birth Control

It’s time to give moms a meaningful gift for Mother’s Day –birth control. Moms need HR4121, the Right to Contraception Act, because it guarantees everyone who needs it access to birth control and the freedom to use it. It gives healthcare practitioners the protection they need in providing information and prescribing whatever option works best for their patient.

I attended Republican Congressman Brandon Williams’ town hall on April 25th in Verona, and submitted a question on a notecard, asking if he would co-sponsor the Right to Contraception Act and my reasons why. His response boiled down to, “I haven’t read the bill, so I won’t promise anything. I’ll have to check to see who the other co-sponsors are.” I have his response on video.

Why would it matter to him that this crucial bill has 193 Democratic co-sponsors? Why won’t he and 24 other Republicans help get this bill to the House floor for a vote?

Rep. Williams is wrong. Protecting reproductive freedom should rise above partisan politics. Women must be able to freely choose their own future, and birth control is a crucial resource for us. The right to contraceptives enables moms and women the freedom to decide what is best for themselves. Women are worthy of whatever future they choose, and it’s not up to Brandon Williams to decide for them.
