Shelley Skellington: Stop Handling DSS With Kid Gloves

To the Editor,

The politicians want to be politically correct! Well, when a child’s life is taken from neglect, it is time to speak up and show action. When does the Department of Social Services become accountable? Child Protective Services. Protect children! When and where?

The poverty rate in this County needs to be addressed, while the political representatives and their committees talk about infrastructure money. Let’s get down to the real brass tactics and invest in the children in the communities, who will be our future. Legislators have the authority to make the commissioner of Child Protective accountable and step down.

As far as the investigation, it should be conducted by the NYS Attorney General and made public, Legislators also should ask for more funding for their Districts for this area. The shortage of staff has been an ongoing issue in this County, as where the funding that comes in, should be put to use and hire quality staff and pay them a decent wage.

You are putting these individuals life at risk to do their job, so pay them well. These kids are in their hands.

The parents need to be criminally charged when these cases are found, not dragged out until all the paperwork is complete.

We need to take action now, before we lose anymore children in Oswego County.
