Wonderful Weekend of High School Sports in Fulton

To The Editor:

What a great weekend for sports in our community. It was the fourth annual rivalry day between the Oswego Buccaneers and the Fulton Red Raiders, which took place at the D. Donald Distin Athletic Complex.

The competition was between varsity tennis, varsity and JV baseball, varsity and JV softball, and varsity girls and boys lacrosse. There will be a continuation of varsity boys’ and girls’ track on May 11 at 4:30 p.m.

It was great seeing so many young people participating and enjoying the competitive events.

My wife, Sandy, and myself, were past presidents of the Fulton Athletic Booster Club and have been strong supporters of the value of high school sports in young people’s lives. The life lessons of sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and community pride are priceless.

A concern of ours, as well as many others, is the recent proposed budget changes made by the Oswego City School District to eliminate some sports, which will affect many of the junior high and high school athletic programs.

We hope that there will be a resolve to this situation so that there will be less of an impact on various sports programs.
