Oswego County BOCES held their Fall 2007 Practical Nursing Graduation recently for adult students enrolled in the program. Director of Adult Education and Workforce Development Donna Donabella welcomed the family and friends attending to share in the celebration of graduation.
Also offering welcoming remarks was Reva Rettinger, RN at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, who is also on the Oswego County BOCES Board of Education representing the Phoenix Central School District. She spoke to the graduates about the possibilities for employment as a nurse saying, “The world is yours, go show them who you are.â€ÂÂ
One of the traditions at the Practical Nursing graduation is students select a class speaker to speak on behalf of the class. This year’s class speaker was Kelly Green. When Green first began the class, she wondered, “Would I be able to do this? What got me through was knowing I wasn’t the only one here going through this. We were all in this together,†she said. Looking to the future she said, “This is just the beginning. I look forward to what this journey holds for all of us.â€ÂÂ
Kate Ellingwood, LPN, RN offered additional words of advice and encouragement to the graduates as guest speaker before the presentation of pins and diplomas to the Fall 2007 Practical Nursing graduates.
Following the presentation, class awards were presented including the announcement of Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the class. Salutatorian was Kelly Green and Valedictorian was Penny Firenze. National Technical Honor Society inductees were also honored. They were as follows: Penny Firenze, Kelly Green, Bianca Hendrick and Stacey Restuccio.
