FULTON, NY – Bridget Dolbear, coordinator of Oswego County Opportunities’ Nutrition Services, is proud to announce that OCO has received a $1,750 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in the 13th annual March for Meals campaign.
Led by Meals on Wheels America, the March for Meals campaign presented opportunities for volunteers, businesses and governments to support seniors in a variety of ways to make their communities stronger, safer and healthier.
This year’s grants were made possible through the generosity of Subaru of America, Inc. and its seventh annual “Share the Love” event.
During the event, Subaru donated $250 to the owner’s choice of participating charities for every new vehicle purchased or leased.
“The March for Meals event proved to be an excellent way to increase awareness of senior hunger in Oswego County and the efforts of OCO Nutrition Services,” said Dolbear. “Throughout the campaign many elected officials and local volunteers helped raise awareness of senior hunger by delivering meals to senior’s homes or serving meals at one of our six dining and activity centers. Additionally we hosted a number of activities and utilized our Facebook page, OCO Senior Centers to highlight our March for Meals event.”
In total, $370,250 is being granted nationally to 258 local Meals on Wheels programs and two Meals on Wheels America-affiliated State Associations based on their March for Meals efforts.
The grant received by OCO Nutrition Services will be used to aid its Dining and Activity Centers as well as its Meals on Wheels program.
“The March for Meals grant program is our way of recognizing local programs for bolstering the dynamic and effective partnership between Meals on Wheels and the businesses, organizations, governments and volunteers who provide critical support within their communities,” said Meals on Wheels America President and CEO Ellie Hollander. “In addition to mobilizing nearly 400 local Meals on Wheels celebrations across the country, we commemorated the month by releasing the findings of a groundbreaking research study proving that Meals on Wheels delivers so much more than just a meal.”
OCO’s Meals On Wheels program, which is funded in part through Oswego County Office for the Aging and United Way of Greater Oswego County, serves more than 1,000 senior meals each day.
Additionally OCO’s Nutrition Services administers six Dining and Activity Centers where seniors can enjoy a hot, nutritious noontime meal and visit with friends.
These centers are located in Fulton, Mexico, Hannibal, Parish, Phoenix and Constantia.
