CCE of Oswego County is sponsoring an â€œOswego County Soybean Summer Field Meetingâ€ on August 20th from 11 am to 2:30 pm at Sorbello & Sons Packing House located at 630 County Route 8, Fulton, NY. This 3-hour on-farm meeting will provide attendees with the latest information on insects, diseases, and cultural practices, such as IPM, that can be utilized to help reduce pesticide use and improve yields in soybean fields and storage facilities.
11:00 am Ken Wise, NYS Field Crops IPM Specialist, will discuss pests affecting soybeans and treatment methods when pests reach economic thresholds. Scouting and other IPM techniques will be emphasized.

12:30 pm Nathan Herendeen, crop consultant, will present on pest and disease issues affecting the safe storage of grain.
1:30 pm Dr. William Cox, Cornell University, will discuss proper soybean seeding rates and row widths to improve yield results
2:00pm Dr. William Cox, Cornell University, will speak on planting disease resistant varieties and utilizing row spacings to control the spread of diseases in soybeans.
NYS DEC recertification credits have been approved as follows: Category 1A = 2.50 credits; Category 10 = 2.50 credits; Category 21 = 2.50 credits; and, Category 23 = 1.50 credits. To receive credits, be sure to bring your pesticide identification card with you. The cost of the program is only $12 and includes lunch. Registration is required by August 18th.
