OSWEGO – On Monday (December 14), investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force conducted an investigation into the alleged possession and sales of heroin within the city of Oswego.
At approximately 2 p.m., a 2008 Hyundai SUV, being operated by Mark J. Hewitt, 45, of 101 Ellen St., Oswego, was approached by investigators as it sat curb side on East First Street at East Mohawk Street.
Hewitt had been observed to operate the vehicle, just prior, allegedly without a valid driver’s license.
Additionally, at the time the investigators made contact with Hewitt, a second person was leaning into the passenger side front window of the vehicle, according to police.
Investigators had interrupted an alleged sale of heroin between Hewitt and the second person, police said.
Hewitt was subsequently arrested after 4 bags of heroin and 37 bags of a substance containing fentanyl, an opiate, were reportedly seized from his person and vehicle.
Hewitt was criminally charged as follows:
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, intent to sell – Class B Felony
Further charges against Hewitt are pending at this time.
The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Oswego Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility without bail.
He is due to appear in Oswego City Court on January 7, 2016.
The street value of the seized drugs is approximately $820.
