OSWEGO, NY – Thursday (November 19), marks the 39th anniversary of the reported disappearance of Oswego resident Dean Heagerty.
Dean was 19 years old at the time he was reported missing.
He was 6’1” tall with blue eyes and shoulder length blond hair.
He was believed to be hitchhiking shortly before being reported missing to authorities.
At the time of his disappearance, Dean was reported to have been suffering from some degree of memory loss.
Additional reports suggested that he may have been attempting to travel to Schwenksville, Pa., in order to contact a relative in the area.
In the later part of November 1976 there were unconfirmed reports that a person matching the physical description of Dean may have been seen in the Pennsylvania area.
He was never seen or heard from again and since that time there has been little information for investigators to follow up on.
Dean would now be 58 years of age.
Over the past several years, the Oswego City Police Department has developed a DNA profile based upon family member DNA submissions which have been compared to numerous databases across the country but to no avail.
By re-releasing this information the Oswego City Police Department is hoping to generate some additional information that may assist investigators determine what may have happened to Dean.
This information is also being sent to local media outlets in the Pennsylvania area where Dean was reported to be heading.
