The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey Team went 2-2 in recent home and away games.
The Lakers recently hosted Mohawk Valley Community College for a non- league contest. The visitors scored first but Oswego answered with 4 straight goals and never looked back. Scoring goals for Oswego were Ryan Grant (2), Connor Crawley and DJ Mazzoni with assists being credit to James Hollowell (3), Crawley and Matt Brady. Sophomore goaltender Sal Annunziata faced 17 shots for Oswego.
The following day the Lakers welcomed Ithaca to the Campus Center for an NECHL contest. Oswego’s Chris Timmons scored first on a pass from DJ Mazzoni but Ithaca quickly answered with 4 goals. The Lakers then scored the next 3 goals but it wasn’t enough to stop Ithaca from putting 2 goals past the Oswego netminder as the Bombers defeated Oswego 6-4. Junior goaltender Aaron Frohm had 30 saves in the loss. DJ Mazzoni, the leading scorer for the Lakers,also had a goal along with freshman Sam Vaimberg.
The next weekend Oswego traveled to Cansius College for a non- league D1 game against the Griffins. Canisius scored the only goal in the first period but the Lakers scored the next four and they defeated Canisius 4-3. Four different players scored for Oswego- Dillon Tamer, Ryan Grant, Cam Herlan and Tom Rahill. Sal Annunziata was credited with the win and the goaltender improved his record to 3-0.
Oswego then traveled to Ithaca for an NECHL game. Ithaca came out strong and scored five straight goals. Oswego never gave up and scored 3 goals in 2 minutes. Despite the effort, the Lakers were defeated once again by Ithaca, 7-5. Scoring for Oswego were Chris Covel, Adam Webster, DJ Mazzoni and Dillon Tamer (2). Assisting were Brady, Rudy Renick, Timmons and Chris Conklin. Goaltending duties were split between Mike Reid and Aaron Frohm, who combined for 45 saves.
The Lakers will travel to Binghamton on Saturday to face the Bearcats in an NECHL game and next weekend will travel to Canton to defend their championship crown at the annual Terry Martin Pride’s Corners Tournament hosted by SUNY Canton.
