Oswego State Mens Club Hockey News


The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey Team opened up its 2010-11 season by dropping two close contests to Binghamton and University of Rochester recently. The Lakers traveled to Binghamton for an NECHL game and lost 5-4. Oswego goals were scored by Chris Timmons, Tony Verdon and Brad Kervin(2) with assists being credited to Nick Phelps, Brandon Clark and West Genesee grad Chris MacRae. Goaltender Mike Reid had 36 saves for Oswego.

The following night the Lakers faced the University of Rochester for a non- league contest and dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the home team. Chris Cavanaugh, Rob Lippolis and Justin Smith score for Oswego while Mike Renick, Mike Steinke and Chris Covel were awarded the assists. Senior goaltender Anthony Sellitti had 32 saves for the Lakers.

Oswego will travel to St. Bonaventure this Friday night and then will return home to the Campus Center Arena for their first home game of the season when they will host Syracuse on October 16 at 1:00 p.m. for a league contest. Oswego will be honoring the memory of Syracuse goaltender Rich Carlston at this game by wearing a navy blue and orange #1 on their helmets. Carlston was killed in a car crash this past summer on his way back to the Syracuse campus. He had played against many of the players on the Oswego team and the Lakers wanted to acknowledge him in this special way.

Oswego is a D1 ACHA team and a member of the NECHL. They are sponsored by the Student Association of Oswego State University and play all home games at the Campus Center Arena. Admission to all home games is free.

Head coach of the Lakers is Jay Peacock (Mexico) and the assistant coach is Evan Greenwald. Local players on the team Include Blaine McClellan(Fulton) and West Genesee grads D.J. Mazzoni and Chris MacRae. The team roster includes 32 players, all of whom are New York residents.
