Oswego State’s Ruskey and Collins earn all-conference honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. – SUNY Athletic Conference Commissioner Azure Davey released the 2012 field hockey all-conference teams on Tuesday, and honored two Oswego State field hockey players this season.

Senior Michelle Ruskey was named to the First Team, while sophomore Courtney Collins was selected for the Second Team.

Forward Michelle Ruskey finished the season second on the squad with 12 points on four goals and four assists in 16 games. Her best game of the year came against Morrisville, as she registered two goals and an assist in the 4-0 victory. Both remaining goals were scored against conference opponents, New Paltz and Brockport. Ruskey’s goal versus Brockport was also the deciding goal in a 1-0 contest.

Midfielder Courtney Collins started in 15 out of 16 games for Coach Brandi Lusk in 2012. Collins was a critical player in the transition and defensive game for the Lakers, but also contributed one goal and four assists for six points.

Michelle Ruskey, a business administration major, is the daughter of Scott and Cathe Ruskey, and is a 2009 graduate of Whitesboro High School. Courtney Collins, a human resource management major, is the daughter of Glenn and Anne Collins, and is a 2011 graduate of Fairport High School.

The Lakers finished the season riding a three-game win streak to end at 6-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference standings.
