Cupid Gascon, M.D., has been named Medical Director of Emergency Services at Oswego Hospital.

In his new position, Dr. Gascon will oversee operation of the hospital’s emergency department. “My goal is to ensure that our emergency room patients receive not only excellent quality care, but that their overall experience exceeds their expectations,” Dr. Gascon said. “I plan to maintain a team of extremely competent clinicians in the emergency department who will meet the community’s needs and provide outstanding care.”

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Gascon to Oswego Hospital’s emergency department,” said Oswego Health President and CEO Ann C. Gilpin. “He brings exceptional skills as an experienced emergency room physician, and will assist the department in continuing to provide excellent quality care.”

Dr. Gascon has been a board certified emergency physician for more than ten years. “As a physician I wanted to see some immediate benefit to the patient from my actions, and emergency medicine was the field that provided the opportunity to improve a patient’s condition often times almost immediately.”

Dr. Gascon said he was looking forward to working at Oswego Hospital’s new ER, which is undergoing a major construction project. “When the renovated department opens, we will have a larger facility that offers the community more patient rooms that have the newest technology,” he said. “With the 16 private rooms, I feel strongly that we will improve our efficiency and our patients will be impressed.”

In accepting the position, Dr. Gascon returns to the area. “Central New York is really a good place to raise a family,” he explained. Dr. Gascon, and his wife, Stella Castro, M.D., have two young daughters.

Most recently, Dr. Gascon was the vice president of medical affairs and physician product manager at a facility in Charlotte, N.C. Several years ago, he was an active medical staff member of the former A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton, and also served as a hospital board member, and president of the medical staff.

Dr. Gascon earned his medical degree from the University of the Philippines. He completed his internship at the Mercy Hospital of Toledo, OH and trained at the integrated emergency medicine program of the University of Connecticut and Hartford Hospital.

In addition to his medical training, Dr. Gascon has earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master’s in Medical Informatics. Dr. Gascon said he would use the knowledge he gained from obtaining his two master’s degrees to improve patient satisfaction in the emergency department.
