Oswego County Residents Can Make Appointments for H1N1 Flu Vaccine

OSWEGO – The Oswego County Health Department has received additional H1N1 flu vaccine and is accepting appointments from people who are in priority groups for receiving the vaccine, Dr. Dennis Norfleet, Oswego County Public Health Director, announced today. Both the injectable vaccine and the nasal spray vaccine are available.

The H1N1 flu vaccine is recommended for the following groups:

· Pregnant women;
· Household contacts, family members and caregivers of children less than 6 months of age;
· Health care workers and EMS providers;
· Children and young adults six months to age 24;
· People ages 25 to 64 who have a chronic underlying medical condition.

To make an appointment for the H1N1 flu vaccine, residents should call the health department Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 349-3547 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3547.

“We do not anticipate a shortage of H1N1 vaccine,” said Dr. Norfleet. “We will continue to schedule additional H1N1 clinics when we receive additional shipments of the vaccine.”

There is no charge for the H1N1 vaccine.
