Upstate Mammography Van Plans Nov. 3 Stop in Oswego

OSWEGO — Upstate University Hospital’s Mammography Van is scheduled to visit Breitbeck Park in Oswego on Nov. 3 as part of its November clinics across Central and Northern New York, according to a release from the hospital’s Mobile Mammography program.

The program aims to make breast cancer screenings easier to access. To schedule a screening mammogram, call 315-464-2588 or request an appointment at www.upstate.edu/noexcuses. Appointments are recommended to ensure patients can be seen that day.

According to the program, women eligible for a mammogram on the van should be 40 or older, have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months and not be experiencing breast problems.

The November schedule includes:

  • Nov. 3: Breitbeck Park, Oswego.
  • Nov. 6: Sullivan Library, Chittenango.
  • Nov. 10: Northwestern Mutual, East Syracuse.
  • Nov. 11: Town of Geddes office, Solvay.
  • Nov. 12 and 13: Town of Webb office, Old Forge.
  • Nov. 17: New Hartford Public Library.
  • Nov. 18: Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, Syracuse.
  • Nov. 19: Town of Lee office, Lee Center.
  • Nov. 23: North Area YMCA, Liverpool.

The van is equipped with a 3D digital mammogram system, a private exam room, dressing rooms and a waiting room.

The release describes breast cancer as one of the most common cancers in women, affecting one in eight, and says it is among the most treatable cancers when detected early. It describes mammograms, X-rays of the breasts, as the most effective screening procedure for early signs of breast cancer.

According to the program, the van has traveled more than 72,000 miles over the past seven years, bringing mammograms to women in counties throughout Central New York.
