When troopers arrived, they observed a male standing over a black Labrador canine who was seizing and barely breathing.

Troopers attempted to cool the dog with water and ice.

Subsequently, the dog died at the scene.

Troopers arrested Patrick J. Oneill, 66, from 326 Haverstock Road in Massena, NY, on the Agricultural and Markets Law – Section 353, a class “A” misdemeanor.

The investigation revealed that Oneill reportedly left his 2-year-old female Labrador for more than four hours in his vehicle while he attended the State Fair.

Oneill was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Geddes Court on September 16 at 5:30 p.m.

  1. What a scum bag loser, somebody should lock him in the car for 4 hrs and see how he likes it,what a loser.I also hope PITA and other animal lovers are at his court hearing. The laws need to be changed, this should be a felony,no doubt about it.He should have been pistol whipped and tasered, loser!!!!!!!!

  2. We all make mistakes in this life. This individual must not have realized the severity of his actions, and this caused him to lose a beloved pet that he couldn’t bear not to bring with him everywhere he went.

I hope, sincerely, that everyone who reads this story learns a valuable lesson, so this lab didn’t die in vain. PLEASE, don’t take your dog for a ride in a car when you know you have stops to make.

NEVER, even for 15 minutes, leave your dog in a car. Period. We sweat, they do not. Their only cooling methods are the bottom of their feet, and their tongues. A car can quickly reach well over 120 in the shade, with the windows open. Check out your own car after it’s been sealed up, and see how you’d feel in just a few minutes without entering air.

My heart breaks for this misfortunate event. Especially for this lovely dog that didn’t deserve what happened to it. But also for the man who must live with his actions. I think this will be punishment even more than the jail sentence. But I am glad to see the governing bodies see that pets have the right to an abuse free existence. Even when the abuse was unintentional.

  3. I know people that claim to be animal people that leave their animals unattended in the car and and camper trailers all the time. They say I love my dogs just like you love your children.
I say that i never left my children unattended when they couldn’t take care of themselves. Some people are selfish, I don’t get it.
