Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay On Court Of Appeals Congressional Redistricting Ruling

ALBANY – Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) issued the following statement on the Court of Appeals decision to redraw Congressional district lines. In 2022, Republican victories in New York helped flip the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats filed a lawsuit seeking to redraw district lines in hopes of a more favorable outcome.

“New York Democrats were embarrassed on the national stage in 2022 and this is their way of trying to rig the system in their favor. They couldn’t win at the ballot box, so they tried their hand in the courts,” Leader Barclay said. “Today’s outrageous ruling will certainly be challenged. The last thing we need is yet another set of Congressional maps to add even more confusion, chaos and partisan politics into New York’s electoral system. This was a process controlled by Democrats every step of the way and it’s been a complete disaster since day one.”
