“New York Democrats should be breaking their runaway spending habits. Instead, they’re breaking the bank. ?
? Gov. Hochul rolled out an Executive Budget proposal today that’s $19 BILLION more than the one she proposed last year. That’s shocking. But the most alarming part of the governor’s $252 billion spending plan is that this is almost certainly the floor. The two Legislative Majorities will have their own lengthy wish lists and don’t know the meaning of the word ‘restraint’ when it comes to spending the public’s money.
New Yorkers deserve a state where they can thrive, raise a family, run a business, and put down roots. Unfortunately, this proposal fails to lay the groundwork for the long-term solutions needed to make our state economically stronger. A $252 billion budget disregards the fiscal responsibility required to ensure New York becomes truly affordable in the long run. We can’t spend our way into affordability and will never reduce the cost of living by forcing taxpayers to pay more, year after year.
After hearing the governor’s State of the State Address, I was optimistic that she identified ‘affordability’ as one of her top priorities for 2025. Unfortunately, that optimism lasted exactly one week.”
