OSWEGO, NY – Calling all word wizards! Registration is now open for Scrabble Fest 2015.
The ninth annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest, a benefit for Oswego County Opportunities’ Literacy Volunteers, is set for October 2, from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the Oswego Elks Lodge, 132 W. Fifth St.
One of Oswego County’s most entertaining fundraisers, the fest offers devotees of the game Scrabble the opportunity to enjoy an evening of friendly competition for a great cause, increasing literacy throughout Oswego County.
Organizers have added a number of fun extras to this year’s event to make the games even more exciting.
– Teams may purchase up to one “Exchange a Tile” token per player per round. The token allows teams to replace any of their current tiles without losing a turn.
– “Word Wizard Wands” will give teams to the opportunity to earn extra points if the word on their Wizard Wand is announced during play.
– “Bingo Bracelets” give teams the opportunity to win a free registration to Scrabble Fest 2016 in the event that they make a play using all seven of their tiles.
– Teams may purchase up to two “Golden Tiles” that may be used for the letter of their choice.
Teams consist of four players, who work together to create words during three turns in each of the four 20-minute rounds of play.
Team scores will be tallied and the top three teams will be awarded prizes including gift certificates to the river’s end bookstore and signed copies of books by renowned author and founder of Literacy Volunteers of America, Ruth Colvin.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games will begin at 6:30 p.m.
There will also be a variety of door prizes, a lottery ticket board raffle, 50/50 raffle and more.
Entry fee is $100 per team and includes light refreshments.
The cost for spectators – those who want to attend but not compete in the event – is $15 (this fee includes light refreshments).
Cash bar available.
All proceeds from Scrabble Fest will benefit OCO Literacy Volunteers.
