Ryker and his handler, Oswego City Firefighter Derrick Backus, recently completed the intensive Canine Detection Training Course (300 hours) at the New York State Academy of Fire sciences in Montour Falls NY.

“This is a sad and unexpected ending to a great program and loyal and dedicated partners, Firefighter Backus and Ryker,” Chief Jeff McCrobie said. “I am proud of what they accomplished in their time together, a true reflection of the kind of professional Derrick is. I also want to thank Oswego County Fire Coordinator Donald Forbes and his staff, the County of Oswego and Mayor Tom Gillen and the Oswego Common Council for forging this partnership that allowed this to happen.”
