SANDY CREEK – Sandy Creek Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted 20 new members in a recent ceremony held at the Middle/Senior High School.
Middle School Principal Carolyn Shirley and NJHS adviser Susan Gafner welcomed the new members who joined the 11 current members of the elite group.
The Sandy Creek Chapter of NJHS recognizes students for more than outstanding academics, though membership requires a minimum 90 average or above for consideration, it also celebrates and recognizes students for the five ideals, representing knowledge and truth: scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship.
Students were announced and presented with certificates and special pins to mark the occasion.
Principal Shirley administered the NJHS Oath to the following new inductees:
Levi Darling, Logan Strong, Sarah Balcom, Evelyn Bice, Catie-Ann Blodgett, Sydney Burgy, Terry Eggleston, Elsa Graf, James Green, Deanna Hathway, Michaela Kastler, Emma McDougal, Hailey Miller, Madeleine Palmer, Olivia Pappa, Zachary Paternoster, Samantha Ranieri, Thomas Reff, Hailee Thurston and Emily Yousey. They join current members: Gavin Babcock, Madison Bauer, Sydney Cook, Riley Dowlearn, Aden Goodnough, Alaina Hathway, Adam Hilton, McKenzie Kwak, Sadie Lurcock, Alexis McNitt and Marley Yerdon.
In closing, Principal Shirley told students that while grades are important, it’s important to remember that what matters is learning.
“Knowledge is power,” she said. “Keep learning and keep striving to be your best.”
A reception was held for the students and their family following the ceremony.
