Kindness, compassion and acceptance are all Volney Elementary School character traits that were recently reinforced by singer/songwriter Jared Campbell.
Campbell once again visited the Volney Vikings to inspire students to love themselves and everyone around them.
He offered two performances: one for kindergarteners through second graders and another for students in grades three through six.
In the latter presentation, Campbell encouraged students to listen to the lyrics of his original song, “When I Was a Kid,” about nothing standing in a child’s way of success.
Students also heard a message about the power of music and its impact on people as Campbell sang, “A Life I Haven’t Lived Yet.”
The older students discussed with Campbell struggles of feeling left out, bullying and difficulties in school and at home, but were comforted by Campbell’s song about staying on the white fog line and leaning on those who help guide us through life.
Several students shared those important people as their peers, relatives and school faculty members.
The presentation ended with a fun sing-a-long with Campbell beat-boxing to “Itsy Bitsy Spider.”
