Auer Winds Up Pool Career At State Meet

OSWEFO, NY – Michaela Auer was able to compete at the New York State Swimming and Diving Championship meet in Buffalo this weekend as a result of her school record-setting performance at Sectional’s two weeks ago.

This is the second time that she has qualified for the meet, but the first time that she’s qualified in two events.

Her events, the 100-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle, were strong ones at the meet with 46 girls qualifying for the breaststroke and 64 for the freestyle.

Michaela’s impressive time of 1:08.55 from Sectional’s was ranked 28th going into the meet in the breaststroke and her equally outstanding time of 25.18 in the 50 free had her sitting 48th in the state.

Michaela and the rest of the Section III State Championship team enjoyed the meet and matched up well against the best in the state.

Coach Josh Lerch said, “Her preliminary times in her events were not fast enough to make the top 24 that are invited back for finals, but just making it to this level and knowing that she has raised the bar for her high school by breaking the previous record in the 100 breaststroke by nearly two seconds was extremely impressive.”

Lerch continued, “This was a great ending to an impressive high school swimming career for Michaela. She is a very strong swimmer, in mind and body, and she has set herself up for a bright future in college. When she decides where she will spend the next four years of her swimming career, I know that the college that gets her will be very excited to have her after this year’s accomplishments and because she has only begun to realize her where talent will take her.”
