Sophomore forward Stephen Auyer scored with 2:23 left in the game to lift the Oswego varsity boys soccer team to a 2-1 triumph over Watertown on Tuesday at Turrill Street Field.

The deciding play began with a deep throw-in from the right side by senior Joe Bucher. Junior Nate Pacheco (Photo) flicked it with his head and the ball came to Auyer, who booted his shot inside the right post.

Auyer and Pacheco also connected for the game’s first goal with 17:36 left in the first half. Pacheco sent the ball ahead to Auyer, who blasted a shot toward the left side. Watertown goalkeeper Tim Madden got a piece of the ball, but it still found its way to the back of the net for a 1-0 Oswego lead.

Watertown (7-2) scored its goal with 36:27 left in the second half. An Oswego push gave the Cyclones a free kick, and Collin Devlin sent the ball toward the right post. Matthew Cleaver was there to send it in, knotting the score at 1-1.

The Cyclones maintained pressure and enjoyed some good scoring opportunities in the early part of the second half. Oswego keeper John Aylward (3 saves) made a couple of nice stops to keep the game tied.

The Bucs regained the momentum, dominating the final 10 minutes of the game and putting constant heat on Watertown keeper Madden (13 saves). It led to Auyer’s winning goal.

Oswego (3-6) will play Friday at West Genesee. missing or outdated ad config
