Buc JVs Take Volleyball Title

Oswego’s girls JV volleyball squad is off to a solid start.

The team lost a tight match to Central Square last Wednesday and won the secondary bracket of the Penfield JV Tournament.

In Penfield, coach Teddy Beers said his squad was just edged out by a tough host team in pool play. That relegated Oswego to the Silver bracket, where they beat Newark easily, edged Churchville-Chili 25-20 and 25-22, then fought Liverpool, winning in three sets, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-22.

“The girls played a lot of volleyball today and deserved to win the 1st place trophy for the Silver division,” Beers said. “We seemed to get better as the day went on.”

Central Square beat the Oswego JVs 22-25, 25-18, 18-25 in the regular season opener.

Rebecca Martin had 6 kills and 4 aces for the Lady Bucs, while Alexa Healy had 10 assists.

“I think we played well tonight,” Beers said. “This was our first chance as a team to see how our offense and defense was going to look. It is tough to see until you get on the court and play against a team. We had several good kills from several players. Rebecca Martin, Carlie Morley, and Mackenzie Oatman set a good pace for kills and Alexa Healy set a great match for us tonight. We lost 2 sets to 1 but we were in each set which is important for us to learn from. We have a young group who has learned quickly and plays well together.”
