BucFest 2011 Set Oct. 1 At Joe Wilber Field

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Buccaneer Boosters have planned their biggest and most exciting BucFest yet, to celebrate homecoming 2011 and kick-off the Buccaneers’ varsity home football game against Corcoran High School.

“BucFest” is planned for Oct. 1, from 12:30-3 p.m., at the end of Joe Wilbur Field (rain location OHS gym) right after the homecoming parade.

Immediately following Bucfest will be the homecoming game against Corcoran High School at 3 p.m.

The cost of the fourth annual event is $2 and most of the attractions are free.

Parent volunteers are painting Oswego City School district students' hair and nails "Buc Blue" in preparation for the Homecoming football game.

Every BucFest visitor will receive a snack from Frito Lay, and blue or white “Buc Beads” as they enter while supplies last.

Anyone wearing Buccaneer blue will receive an extra reward.

This year, for the first time, ‘Jeff the Magic Man & Balloon Artist’ has been added to the festivities.

“Each year we try to add new attractions and activities that will entertain and boost school spirit with the students, faculty and community,” said BucFest committee chair, Judy Queale-Dunsmoor. “We’re very excited about the new schedule and hope the community will follow the homecoming parade down to Joe Wilber field on Saturday to enjoy a fun filled BucFest and then stay to watch the game. There will be something for everyone at this year’s BucFest!”

The official BucFest 2011 T-shirt, donated in part by Visual Creations, will also be on sale during BucFest, with a limited number of shirts available.

In true Buc spirit you will able to get your hair and nails colored in “Buc Blue” as well as make a stop at the face-painting booth.

New this year, kids can also get “Buc Blue” feather extensions in their hair, and make their own candy lei to wear.

Digital Sound Entertainment, featuring “Marty the One Man Party” from 107.9 FM, will provide music for this year’s event.

One of the most popular activities last year was the dunk booth where students took turns attempting to soak their teachers or coaches. Attendees can choose to participate in a variety of games such as four-way tug of war, football throw, supreme obstacle course and Jacob’s Ladder or “hippity hop” races for adults and kids of all ages. Some games will offer prizes donated by Fajita Grill and the Buc Boosters.

Children can get their photos taken with New York Bold’s “Chef Bold,” Frito Lay’s “Cracker Jack,” or the “Oswego Buccaneer.”

This year’s menu includes New York Bold blooming onions, cotton candy, snow cones, candy and caramel apples, hot dogs, cheeseburgers and pizza, brought to you by Barlow’s Concessions, Kings Concession, Cam’s Pizzeria, New York Bold and the football boosters.

In addition to the festival, the Buccaneer Boosters are promoting a “Buccaneer Blue Week” throughout Oswego from, Sept. 24 – Oct. 1.

The Boosters will give a prize to the business owner and the homeowner who does the best job decorating for “Buccaneer Blue Week.”
