OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego boys’ varsity hockey team scored a 4-1 win over host Clinton at the Clinton Arena on Tuesday night.
Oswego jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and scored single goals in the second and third to move to 5-1-1 on the season.
Matt Lloyd, David Morgia, John Phillips and Josh Sova scored for the Bucs.
Clinton applied pressure, but Matt Howard surrendered only one goal as he stopped 39 of the 40 shots he faced.
On Wednesday at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center the Bucs got behind 3-0, but rallied back to cut the deficit to one goal at 3-2.
However, Oswego couldn’t get the equalizer and suffered its second set back of the season.
Oswego got back into the game with just 47 remaining in period number two as Josh Sova put the puck past the Lancaster goalie as assists were credited to Jon Carson and Sam Czarnecki.
Early in the third Rick Uribe closed the gap to one goal with a power play tally. Uribe put home the rebound and assists were credited to Trent Yule and Fred Donabella.
In the net Oswego goalie Matt Howard had his second consecutive 39-save game while the Bucs were able to get only 20 shots on the Lancaster goalie.
Lady Bucs Fall In Title Game
The Oswego varsity girls’ basketball team lost to Fayetteville-Manlius in the title game of the Linda Sholts-Lala Ponzi Buccaneer Booster Basketball Tournament.
Oswego held an early 11-8 lead, but FM rallied for a 15-12 by the end of the first quarter.
By halftime the Bucs still remained behind 24-20.
The Hornets have been a tough opponent in the last three matchups with Oswego and by the fourth quarter had built a 16-point lead with just over three minutes to go.
However, the Bucs attempted a comeback and closed the gap to just six points in the final minute.
At the end Brooke Reifinger finished with 18 to lead all scorers with seven field goals including four three-pointers.
Katie Abramski finished with 10 points. Lindsay Johnson scored six, Michaela Auer four and Michelle Canale two.
Oswego fell to 5-3 on the year while Fayetteville-Manlius remained perfect at 7-0.
Lady Bucs Lose First On Ice
The Oswego Lady Bucs lost a 4-0 non-league game to Skaneateles at the Crisafulli Rink on Tuesday afternoon.
Oswego gave up one goal in the first and another in the second as the Lakers held the Bucs at bay.
Madisyn Whalen had 20 saves for the Bucs and Allison Yule stopped seven while Oswego had all 28 shots stopped.
The Bucs had numerous solid scoring chances in the second period.
The team trailed just 1-0 at that point, but Laker goalie Alexandra Brown was able to stave off every threat at the goalmouth.
Maddy Morrissey had two goals while Michelle Bronk and Brittany Williams each had a goal.
Taylor Kerr had two assists while also earning an assist were Victoria Major, Bronk and Brown.
Oswego fell to 6-1 overall, but continued to be unbeaten in league play at 3-0.
Oswego returns to the Crisafulli Rink at Fort Ontario on Saturday at 1 p.m. to face off against Saranac Lake.
