Bucs Upend Canton 5-2 in Girls’ Hockey

OSWEGO – On Wednesday night, the OHS Girls’ Hockey team traveled to Canton to take on the Bears in a non-league tilt.

The Bucs opened the scoring with 11:39 left in the first when Stephanie Kubis got a nice feed from Hannah Koster that she put by Canton netminder Katie Premo (19 saves).

The Bucs increased their lead late in the first while shorthanded, Kubis intercepted a Canton pass at the blueline and raced in alone on Premo to make it 2-0.

In the second, Canton cut into the Oswego lead when Paige Glasgow found the back of the net, but three minutes later, Oswego’s Kubis banged in a rebound off a Hannah Koster shot to completed her hat trick making it 3-1.

Canton continued to threaten as the third period began, taking many shots on Oswego’s Ashley Finch (30 saves), and once again Paige Glasgow found the opening making it 3-2.

With 3:18 left there was a scramble in front and Oswego’s Cammi Ahern got her stick to the puck and neatly beat Katie Weber, who replaced Premo, giving the Bucs some needed breathing room. Joan Carroll and Katie Fierro were in on the Ahern tally.

Oswego’s Kubis added a goal with just under two minutes remaining to give Oswego the 5-2 victory, Koster and Abby Yurkon were credited with the assists.

Oswego coach Mark Fierro said, “After a tough OT loss on Tuesday night, it was nice to see the girls get rewarded for their hard work. Ashley Finch really played solid in net for us, and Stephanie Kubis wither her linemates Hannah Koster, Reagan Thompson and Molly Fitzgibbons really put the pressure on Canton all game.”

Oswego’s next contest is at Skaneateles Tuesday, December 5. missing or outdated ad config
