Caswell Takes Brewerton Win, Points Lead

Dale Caswell came into the night trailing Rob Keller by a single point, by time the night was over he left with the point lead after picking up his eighth IMCA Modified win of the season. Caswell who started mid-pack took the lead just before halfway from J.J Courcy and never looked back in the green to checker 20-Lap Feature. Rich Keller, Rob Keller, Kevan Cook and J.J Courcy completed the top five.

“We’d like to win them all, but you can’t win them all,” said a smiling Caswell in Victory lane. “If we can keep it together and stay out of trouble maybe we can win the Track Championship.” Caswell goes into next weeks action a single point ahead of Rob Keller in the standings.

Doug Williams earned a hard fought Victory in the 20-Lap ESDCA Mod Lite Feature. Williams had a spirited battle with Tim Devendorf as the pair ran nose to tail and side by side in the non-stop main. Williams wasn’t able to grab the lead for good till Lap-17. Devendorf, point leader Lowell Zehr, Andrew Schartner and Justin Crisafulli completed the top five. Joe Gwilt was the Dig Safely New York Driver of the Race.

After picking up his sixth win of the year Williams related,” Man that was a blast. The track was beautiful, it was fast. I love racing that way.”

Claude Hutchings Jr for most of the 2008 season has picked up easy Victories but not Friday night. First he had to get by Matt Wetterer and then hold off his challenges to grab the win. For Hutchings it was win number eight, in the process lengthened his point lead. Wetterer, Rick Angle, Chuck Powelczyk and Matt Fay chased Hutchings across the line.

Next Friday night July 18 the Mighty Modifieds make their return to the Brewerton Speedway after a two week hiatus on Whittaker’s Trophy Auto Sales Night. The IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, Four Cylinder Super Stocks and a Kings Smash’em – Crash’em Mini Van Demo Derby will be in action. Gates open at 5:30 with racing getting underway at 7:30.
