The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey Team opened their 2008-09 season by hosting two charity games on September 19 and 20 at the Campus Center Rink on the OSU campus.

On Friday, Sept. 19 the Lakers and the Upstate Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Room team faced off with all proceeds from the game being donated to the Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The following night, the alumni returned for the first annual alumni game. The game was sponsored by the Colleges Against Cancer with the admission proceeds going to the  American Cancer Society. The game was tied 7 – 7 after regulation with the alumni being the eventual winners. Coach Jay Peacock presented the NECHL Championship Banner to the alumni players before the games stating that  the team’s success for the past two years is attributed to the humble beginnings of the club  team 6 years ago when they played one game.

Local players on the Laker team Include Captain Jamie Shutts (Fulton), Greg Distin (Fulton), Eric Zerrahn (Oswego) newcomer Andrew Lazzaro (Oswego) and Nick Atkins (Auburn). The team is coached by Jay Peacock (Mexico) and Nick Leauthauser (Oswego 08).  The team travels to Siena this weekend for the first ever meeting of the two teams. On October 4 and 5, the Lakers will begin the defense of their  NECHL crown by hosting Penn State-Berks with the team facing off on Saturday at 7:00 and on Sunday at 12:30.  Admission is free to all the games.
