Great Lakes Recycling 12-under Girls’ Hockey Team Wins Ithaca Shooting Stars Tournament

OSWEGO, NY – The Great Lakes Recycling 12-under girls’ hockey team of the Oswego Minor Hockey Association won the Ithaca Shooting Stars Tournament recently defeating the host Ithaca team 3-2 in the championship.

The Lady Bucs won 8-0 over Canton, and 3-0 over Binghamton in the preliminary games to earn the top seed in the championship game against Ithaca.

Championship Game:
Great Lakes Recycling 3 Ithaca 2
After a scoreless first period and strong defense from both teams in the championship game, Oswego found their offense early in the second period as Marissa Wallace scored off a pass from Addison Stepien, and then just seconds later Ava Plyler tallied a goal off a feed from Jordan Caroccio to make it 2-0 Lady Bucs.

Ithaca would pull within one goal at the 6:40 mark of the third period, before Oswego found the net when Plyler scored once again off a pass from Stepien to go up 3-1.

Ithaca would add one additional goal with a minute remaining in the game, but Oswego’s defense and strong goaltending by Chelsea Storms was too much and helped secure the 3-2 championship win.

“What a great team effort,” said Oswego head coach Ben Miller. “I am so proud of this team and the unselfish play we see game after game. It was great to see how strong our defense and goaltending was all weekend, and of course the amazing effort of our girls on offense.”

According to Miller, the solid defense in the championship and preliminary games was led by Storms in net, as well as defenders Nikki Regan, Anna Michalski, Stepien and Caroccio.

The offense was led by Wallace, Plyler, Sadie Pratt, Jensen St. Croix, Nealy Pippen, Natalie Miller, Beatrice Rastley and Tatum Wincheck.
