Hannibal Boys Earn First Cross Country Win Of Season; Girls Fall To Ranked Teams

No complaints from Hannibal cross country coach Dan Pawlewicz about his boys varsity team’s loss to Westhill.  After all, Westhill is ranked 4th in the state in Class B, 7th in all of Section III.  And the close loss, 25-34, was tempered by the excitement over Hannibal’s first win of the season, 26-30, over Cazenovia in this three way meet.

“The kids ran great,” he said.

Junior Josh Sheldon won the meet, finishing the course in 18:27, 12 seconds in front.  Freshman Curtis Baker was second for the Warriors and fourth overall, at 19:06.  Donnie Bramer’s 20:42 was good enough for 10th place.

The varsity girls team was up against a very powerful pair of foes, however.  Westhill’s ranked 9th in Section III and Cazenovia’s ranked 10th.  Cazenovia shut out Hannibal, 15-50, while Westhill won 15-48.  No Hannibal runner finished in the top 10 at the meet at Santaro Park.
