Hannibal Girls Take Tight Win Over Solvay

Staff report

The Hannibal Varsity Girls Soccer team defeated Solvay 4-3 at Hannibal High School in a game that had everything.  Wet and windy conditions created a sloppy first half with Solvay taking a 2-0 lead after the first 7 minutes. Allison Mrowinski netted both first half goals for Solvay and Hannibal battled back to tie the game at halftime with a breakaway goal from Tayler Sorell and a well placed free kick from Jami Keding.

Solvay regained the lead early in the second half through Liz Martinez and Sorell once again found a way behind the Solvay defense to tie things up at three with 25 minutes to go.  Karisa Fuimara settled matters with a spectacular 40-yard lob.

“It was a spectacular team effort from Hannibal and the midfield/defense deserve a great deal of credit as well,” said coach Mike Agostinho. “Keeper Amanda Gage was as consistent as ever and made several crucial saves to preserve Hannibal’s slender lead.”

Solvay keeper Stacy DeSantis recorded 5 saves while Gage tallied 12. missing or outdated ad config
