High Speed Action Returns to the D-Shaped DIRT Demon Friday Night

By Dave Medler

High Speed Action returns to the Brewerton Speedway this Friday Night August 2nd on Motor Cycle Appreciation Night. Anyone riding a Motor Cycle will get half off the General Admission Grandstand Price, look for a roped off section near the Handicapped Parking Area to park your Motor Cycle.

Everyone is asking is a Small Block the way to go in the DIRTcar Modifieds? The last two Feature winners Bob Henry and Defending Track Champion Willy Decker used Small Block power to get to get to Victory Lane.

Last Friday night the happiest person besides the fans during Autograph Night had to be Modified driver Matt Sheppard. When Sheppard was driving his car down to the front straight to greet the fans smoke and a stream of oil was coming out the car. Sheppard turned around and returned to the pits for repairs. If it wasn’t for the Autograph session who knows what would of happened to the No.9s during the Feature. Sheppard brought home a third place finish.

Going into the night Alan Johnson was the Modified point leader. Johnson was involved in a couple incidents by the first lap of the feature damaging his front end. His crew rushed to make repairs but ran out of time as Johnson exited his car for the night. With Johnsons last place finish and Billy Decker finishing fifth, Decker took the point lead over Johnson by eight markers.

Thrilled would be a understatement for Kevan Cook last week after winning the IMCA Modified 20-Lap Main. Cook got around nine time 2008 Feature winner Dale Caswell to pick up his first win of the year. “It was awesome to drive by him (Caswell) I’ve beaten him before, but never drove by him, it’s pretty awesome,”related Cook after his Victory.

Even with Caswell’s nine wins, the point battle for the Championship is far from over. Rob Keller only trails Caswell by five-points, Kevin Cook , nine-points back, with Rich Keller and J.J Courcy still in the hunt.

Doug Williams found Victory Lane for the seventh time this season in the ESDCA Mod Lites. It was anything but easy as he had to out run his brother Dan for the win. Lowell Zehr has a 27-Point lead over Doug Williams for the Season Championship.

After a week’s absence from Victory Lane High School Student Claude Hutchings Jr. grabbed his ninth win in his potent No.84Jr. Saab.
