Jeremy Pitcher, Tim Sears Jr., Mike Smith and Mike Williams Pick Up Opening Night Wins at Outlaw 200

FULTON, NY – September 30, 2011(By Dave Medler) – Jeremy Pitcher the 2011 Fulton Speedway SUNY Canton Sportsman Track Champion put an exclamation point on his season by winning the Sportsman feature on the opening night of the 26th Annual Sunoco Outlaw 200 Weekend presented by SUNY Canton.

Pitcher took the lead on lap 2 of the 30 lap feature and then over the second half of the race held off challenges from invaders Chad Edwards and then John Scarborough for his fifth win of the year at the speedway. The win was worth $1,000 plus the $100 halfway leader bonus from the Jones Family Racing Team out of Fulton, NY.

Other winners Friday night were, Tim Sears Jr. Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series, Mike Smith New York State Empire Series for IMCA Modifieds and Mike Williams Mod Lites.

Michael Teachout took a narrow lead on the open lap of the 30 lap Sportsman feature before a quick yellow slowed the action. On the restart Jeremy Pitcher shot from third and into the lead.

By lap 10 Pitcher opened a straightaway lead as Teachout, Doug Cook and fought for second with John Scarborough and Chad Edwards showed in the top-five.

A yellow came out on lap 14 erasing the lead Pitcher built up putting invader Edwards right next to Pitcher for the restart.

At the halfway point, Pitcher still led as Edwards kept within striking distance of the leader, Scarborough, Cook and Mike Nagle ran third through fifth.

With 10 laps left, Pitcher still showed the way with Scarborough now chasing the leader after Edwards dropped out. Katelyn Kane who started eleventh, Sammy Reaks and Cook showed in the top-five.

Over the remaining laps, nobody had anything for Pitcher as he was the first under the checkers over John Scarborough, Katelyn Kane, Sammy Reakes IV and Doug Cook.

As the Late Models continue to grow in popularity with the fans the 25 lap Go-Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series did not disappoint. Larry Wight and Jason Parkhurst fought hard for the lead for the first lap 16 laps when Tim Sears Jr. moved into the runner-up spot and set his sights on Wight. Over the final laps Wight and Sears battled nose to tail and side by before Sears was able to work his way into the lead on the last lap to take the win over Wight. Jason Parkhurst, Alan Fink and Lee Gill finished third through fifth.

In the IMCA Modified Empire Series, Mike Smith dominated the race, taking the lead on lap 3 and never looking back. Gary Roberts, Kevan Cook, Pete Neff and Jim Walsh chased Smith across the line.

A full field of Mod Lites started the 20 lap feature as Mike Williams led every lap on his way to eighth Fulton Speedway win of the year. Joe Garafolo, Clayton Brewer III, Derek Wagner and Frank Doll Jr. rounded out the top-five.
