OSWEGO – Congratulations to Kevin King (Men’s Division), Joe Berson (Men’s Senior Division) and Lynn Young (Women’s Division) who outshot a competitive field of golfers to become the 2017 Stone Creek Club Champions.
The two-day event included a field of 35 golfers across three divisions of gross and net scoring.
Men’s Division was led by reigning club champion Kevin King shooting a two-day 159.
King was in a five-way tie for third at the end of day one just two strokes off the leader.
Tough pins, fast greens, and at times a two club wind played a big factor in day one scoring.
The veteran started out on day two with three straight pars and a birdie chip in on four to go one under to lead the field on the front side giving back just one stroke to finish at even par 35.
Not far behind was Will Boydell who fired a front side one over par 36 with back to back birdies on the par three #4 and par four #5.
King gave back a few strokes, but kept his foot on the accelerator through a challenging setup on backside nine to edge out Boydell by one stroke.
Women’s division was led by Lynn Young who had a six-stroke lead going into day two.
Chris Harse, made a run on day two with a 45 on the front nine to close the gap going into the back nine.
Young’s birdie on 11 put her on course for the championship with a solid 43 on the backside.
Men’s Senior division was a battle between Joe Berson and Ricky Doherty.
Doherty led on day one shooting an 81.
Berson sat in second just one off the leader going into day two.
Berson fired a 40 to start the day on the front nine and went two up on Doherty going into the back nine.
A back and forth match continued until both players were tied coming into the tee on 18.
Berson edged out Doherty by one stroke to secure the 2017 championship.
