Lady Bucs Softball Rolls in Season Opener

By Nicholas J. Casella, intern

Oswego’s varsity Lady Bucs pounded the ball all game against Nottingham and picked up their first victory of the season. The Bucs ran away with the game outscoring the Bulldogs 17-0, Monday night.

Oswego’s plate patience paid off for them as they picked up 12 walks during the contest. Their dominance continued at the plate as five girls combined for eight hits.

Senior captain Michele Canale reached the bases on a double and single while driving in four runs. Erika Lazzaro tripled and singled and added three RBI’s of her own. Allie Yule got things going with two singles out of the leadoff spot. Also contributing hits were Jess Slight and Taylor Maas.

The Bucs were equally impressive on the other side of the, completely shutting down Nottingham’s offense, pitching a combined no-hitter. Laura Miceli started off in the circle, striking out five and walking two in her four innings of work. Emily Kolenda picked up where Miceli left off. In the final three innings Kolenda sat down nine straight batters while striking out four.

The 1-0 (overall/league) Lady Bucs next contest is a non-league game on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Liverpool, at Oswego High School. missing or outdated ad config
