Lady Bucs Take Trophy At U-E Volleyball Tournament

The Oswego Lady Bucs volleyball team won the championship of the Silver bracket at the Union-Endicott Tournament defeating Trumansburg 26-24.

In pool play match one , Oswego lost 26-24 and 25-21 to Section IV Champion Owego. Vanessa Sheffield led Oswego with 11 kills followed by Krisi Stemple (11 assists) and Maggie Mooney (5 assists).

Oswego rallied in pool play match two defeating Johnson City 25-19 and 25-12. Cydney had 4 four kills, and was helped by Sheffield (9 kills), Mooney (9 assists), Stemple (4 assists), and Morgan Lavner (2 aces).

In their third pool match Oswego rolled over Binghamton 25-13 and 25-16. Sheffield (11 kills, 6 aces), Davis (4 kills), Lavner (3 kills), and Stemple (14 assists) led Oswego.

In their final pool match, Oswego fell to league foe CNS 25-21 and 25-17. Lavner (3 kills, 2 aces) led the Bucs followed by Mooney (6 assists), Stemple (5 assists), and Sheffield (7 assists, 4 aces, 1 block)

In the play-off round, Oswego (#3 seeded) defeated Oneonta (#2 seeded) 25-15. Stemple finished with five assists followed by Sheffield (3 kills, 3 aces) and Davis (2 kills, 2 blocks.)

In a see-saw final match Oswego missed a couple of services near the end but rallied with late kills by Sheffield, Lavner, and Davis to defeat Trumansburg 26-24. Sheffield nine kills, Stemple (11 assists), Lavner (3 kills), and Davis (1 kill) led the Lady Bucs to the championship.

Coach Ron Ahart said, “We did some good things during the day but also discovered some things we need to work on to get ready for league play that starts next week.”

Oswego plays at Liverpool in one last final non-league match on Tuesday.
