Laker field hockey team grounds Eagles

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team (3-8) turned in a strong defensive performance in a 3-0 win over the Elmira Soaring Eagles (3-6) on Tuesday. Alyssa Hare recorded two goals in the second half to lift the Lakers to the victory.

Taylor Stein (Sr., Endwell, N.Y.) looked to spark her team when she got the Lakers on the board after a heads up play by Rachel Johnston (Jr., Cayuga, N.Y.) early in the first half following Stein’s third marker of the year.

Things continued to go Oswego State’s way in the second half when Alyssa Hare (Sr., Middleport, N.Y.) took a pass in front of the Elmira goalie in the middle of the box and tallied her fourth goal of the year, but more important giving the visitors a 2-0 lead in the second half.

Hare put the icing on the cake when she put the third goal of the game away with four seconds remaining.

Elmira had its chances with nine corner kicks attempts compared to Oswego State’s six, but could not get the ball past freshman goalie Nicole Moccaldi (East Islip, N.Y.), who recorded the shutout on three saves.
