Despite holding a 35-30 shots advantage for the game, the Oswego State women’s hockey team saw its three-game season-opening win streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss to SUNY Potsdam in an ECAC West women’s hockey contest at the Campus Center Ice Arena on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The Lakers (3-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC West), who were looking to add on to their best start in its three-year varsity history, were outshot by the host Bears (2-3-0, 1-2-0 ECAC West), who are in their first season of varsity competition, in the opening two periods (13-11 and 12-6) before holding a 18-5 shots advantage in the third period, where they scored their lone goal of the contest on an unassisted goal from freshman defender Kathryn Sbrocchi (Mississauga, ONT) at 11:31 of the period.

Potsdam scored twice in the opening five minutes of the second period and added a third goal at the 3:17 mark in the third period.  Freshman defender Breanna Roy had a hand on all three goals, assisting on the opening goal 1:45 into the second period, and scoring the next two goals (5:11 of the second period, 3:17 into the third period).  The Bears were 2-for-6 on the power play, while killing off six Laker power-play opportunities.

Potsdam junior goalie Hillary Hitchman, who played for the Lakers in their first two seasons of varsity play, made 34 saves in earning the win for the Bears. Oswego junior goalie Erin Robson (Orillia, ONT) registered 27 saves in picking up the loss.

The Lakers return to the Campus Center Ice Arena on Saturday (7:00 p.m.) and Sunday (2:00 p.m.), Nov. 15-16, for a two-game conference series with Neumann College. missing or outdated ad config
