Oswego State has named freshman men’s basketball Player Chad Burridge (Hannibal) and senior women’s basketball player Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) as the college’s Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 16th.
Burridge contributed 24 points to the 116-68 win over SUNY Canton on Nov. 15th in the programs season opener. Burridge went 10-13 from the floor and went 4-5 from the foul line. He also did well on the boards recording 4 offensive rebounds and 3 defensive rebounds for the Lakers. Burridge finished the game with 3 blocked shots showing his diversity on both sides of the court against SUNY Canton.
Burridge is a Public Justice major and is the son of Dean and Debra Burridge Men’s Basketball will have their next game at Max Ziel Gymnasium, Laker Hall at 8:00 against Cazenovia.
On the women’s side Heather Merino scored a game high 22 points for the Lakers leading them to an 81-49 victory over Cazenovia in their home season opener. Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tracey Bruno stated “we were very pleased with Heather’s ability to take on such a significant offensive role in the game as well as being a team player which ultimately lead to the victory over Cazenovia.†Merino went 8-12 from the floor and was 6-6 from the free throw line. She recorded 5 offensive rebounds and 2 defensive rebounds for the Lakers. Merino proved what a well rounded athlete she was by finishing the game with 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot.
Merino is a Wellness Management Major and a Senior Co-Captain of the women’s basketball team. Women’s basketball will have their next game Friday, Nov 21st against SUNY Cobleskill at the Max Ziel Gymnasium in Laker Hall at 8:00pm.
