Oswego State has named men’s soccer player Felipe Cavalcanti and women’s cross country athlete Rachel Sanborn as the college’s Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 5.

Junior men’s soccer player Felipe Cavalcanti (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) played a pivotal role in helping the Lakers go 2-0 in SUNYAC play with a 2-1 (2 OT) win at Plattsburgh and a 2-1 (OT) win at Potsdam. Against the Cardinals, he tallied both Oswego goals, including the unassisted game-winner in the 108th minute. Cavalcanti recorded his second overtime goal of the weekend against Potsdam in the 97th minute.
Cavalcanti, a chemistry major, is the son of Maria do Carmo Figueiroa Crespo Becker of Valatie, N.Y. and the late Dante Guimaraes Cavalcanti.

Freshman cross country athlete Rachel Sanborn (Liberty, N.Y./Tri-Valley Central) was the top Laker finisher for the fourth consecutive race at the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday as she recorded a time of 24:11 in the first 6K race of the season. Her time was also the fourth fastest time in school history and the fastest in five years.
Sanborn, a global and international studies major, is the daughter of Vincent Sanborn of Grahamsville, N.Y. and Marianna Sanborn of Liberty, N.Y.
